America's Most Wanted Terrorists Not Welcome in the Sunshine State

U.S. Rep. Tom Feeney (R-Oviedo) today expressed his disappointment with the Democrats' reported plan to relocate terrorists from Guantanamo Bay to America. It is reported that the 385 remaining suspects will head to the East Coast of the United States.

"I absolutely object to the Democrats' plan to close down Guantanamo Bay and relocate America's most wanted terrorist thugs to American soil. While I believe the terrorists in custody should be given a hearing as soon as possible, I certainly do not want them waiting to do so in the Sunshine State or anywhere else in America.

"America's brave men and women are fighting radical Islamic terrorists overseas so that we do not face another attack on American soil. To suggest that we bring dangerous detainees here insults our military's mission, undermines American intelligence, and dilutes American constitutional rights. The United States Supreme Court has held that the rights of alien terrorists depend on their contacts with the United States. Bringing them to the U.S. gives them another reason to argue that they deserve the same constitutional rights as our citizens, an absurd result.

"Nowhere in the 9/11 Commission's recommendations did I see a suggestion to welcome known terrorists to U.S. soil a few short years after 9/11. I'm interested to see why Democrats claim that this plan will 'enhance our image.' What the American people really need to know is that the Democrats' flawed PR plan has dangerous implications for their communities," said Feeney.
